Tegucigalpa, Dec 2 (efe-epa).- Olimpia, managed by Uruguayan Manuel Keosseian, secured a ticket to the final of the Honduran league's Apertura tournament by battling Real España to a scoreless draw in the second leg of the semifinal.
Real España, with Uruguay's Martin Garcia at the helm, came to Tegucigalpa on Saturday under pressure to win to get into the final, for which Olimpia qualified merely by tying in the second leg.
In the first leg of the series, Olimpia and Real España tied 2-2.
In the 10th minute, Real España came close to beating the Olimpia goaltender, but good defense prevented that tally.
Real España didn't cave in, however, and in the 55th minute tried once again to score, although that effort too came to nought.
Nine minutes before the final whistle, Olimpia squandered a golden opportunity for a goal, which would have qualified it directly for the final.
At the end of the match, played at Tegucigalpa's Nacional Stadium, the Real España players surrounded referee Armando Castro.
Olimpia is the best team in Honduras and one of the most popular along with Motagua, Real España and Marathon, coached by Argentina's Hector Vargas.
Motagua, coached by Argentine-Honduran Diego Vasquez, came out on top in the first leg of the semifinal and will host Platense on Monday.
Motagua just needs a tie to eliminate Platense and go up against Olimpia in the final.
