Earlier on February, 2018, some Hilton Head Island High School Graduates alerted the school's administration about an Instagram account showing current students and school alumni acting immaturely and irresponsibly. The school’s principal, Amanda O’Nan, sent an email to parents on Tuesday, February 13, notifying them that the students who participated in the post published by this account did not make good use of their judgment and had shared evidence of participation in illegal activities online. The principal suggests that parents speak with their children so they do not follow the account and do not get involved by giving them any comments or a “like.”
In her correspondence, the principal explained that young people who have the privilege of participating in extracurricular activities, which include sports activities, could lose that right if she were to have to make a decision on the matter. In addition, the principal recommends that parents have a serious conversation with their children so that they avoid posting photos or videos online that could compromise their integrity and have repercussions on their future.
